Friday Dreaming is committed to quality and excellence both in our greeting cards and in our customer service.  We design our own cards*** as well as offering custom design services for our customers who want a very personalized greeting card designed for them.

Friday Dreaming started as an idea in 1991 born of a minor frustration . . . fifteen years later the company began.  Here is the story in the words of Shaunie Friday, Owner/Designer/Photographer/Writer:

The Beginnings

When our son was just a baby, I decided to help my husband find his biological father, whom he had never met.  When I found him, my husband's father was thrilled and told us that he had always wanted to find his son.  He would have initiated contact himself, but hadn’t known where to look for him.  He arranged to have us flown to the Midwest where he and his family live so we could meet.  We had a wonderful reunion with him and the whole extended family. 

As our new relationship with him grew, we started exchanging greeting cards at holidays and birthdays. We soon found that commercial greeting cards too often presupposed a history of shared childhood and growing up experiences, so we ended up buying cards that were so generic, they felt cold and impersonal. That was the beginning of the idea that would become the Finders Keepers! line of greeting cards.

Being a busy mom, the idea stayed simmering on the back burner for much longer than I intended.  Finally, I am pursuing that original dream, which in the ensuing years has fleshed out and expanded to incorporate my love for photography and my Christian faith.  These are the foundation for the Radiance! line and the Crystal Clear! line of greeting cards.

Why I Do What I Do

In a St. Patrick’s Day episode of Chuck Colson’s Breakpoint called How the Irish Saved Civilization, he talks about the unique tendency of the Irish down through their Christian history to recognize and study the handiwork of God.  They saw in His creation a way to understand and illustrate who He is, both for their own understanding as well as for instructing others about God.  Perhaps in my Irish DNA (I have lots of it!) there is some hardwired extra aptitude for responding to God’s revelation of Himself in His creation.  Maybe it explains why I squeal over wild skies and catch my breath at mountain splendor and feel like I'm going to explode with the exhilaration of the wind roaring like a freight train through the pines.

C. S. Lewis once wrote to his friend of the blessing of seeing, feeling or experiencing something pleasurable, “It is a message.  We know we are being touched by a finger of that right hand at which there are pleasures for evermore.  There need be no question of thanks or praise as a separate event, something done afterwards.  To experience the tiny theophany is itself to adore.  Gratitude exclaims, very properly, 'How good of God to give me this.'  Adoration says, 'What must be the quality of that Being whose far-off and momentary coruscations are like this!'  One's mind runs back up the sunbeam to the sun.”  (Letters to Malcolm, Letter XVII)  I simply cannot read that quote without tears. 

That is why I take pictures and create greeting cards.  When I capture a moment with my camera, it is my attempt to “run back up the sunbeam to the sun.”  When I create a card from one of those captured moments, I hope that I can lead others “up the sunbeam” too.
